Staff Profile - Mark Hixson
■ Professional Profile Mark Hixson is an Associate Engineer at Sierra Research with extensive experience in emission inventory and air quality modeling. His responsibilities at Sierra include development of regional input data for mobile emissions modeling; simulation of on-road vehicle emissions using the MOVES model; assessment of criteria pollutants and greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions from mobile emission sources; analysis of regional activities related to residential heating emissions; produced analysis of emission impacts related to regional and federal policies. Ongoing work includes development of a software package for Metropolitan Planning Organizations to perform refined GHG emission analysis of regional transportation planning strategies and preparation of regional, gridded emission inventories using SMOKE. Mr. Hixson has been working in the air quality field since 2006. Prior to joining Sierra Research in 2010, he was a graduate student at the University of California at Davis (UCD), where he conducted emission modeling and research on regional development, policy, technology, and climate impacts on air quality in California. He has a B.S. in Engineering Science from the University of Tennessee at Knoxville; a M.S. in Bioengineering from the University of California at San Diego; and is currently completing his Ph.D. in Environmental Engineering from UCD.
